WASHINGTON, Feb.14 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were wounded in a school shooting on Wednesday in the U.S. state of Florida, according to local media.
The shooting took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, just north of Miami. According to aerial footages, students were seen running from the school, while emergency responders have arrived on site to deal with the situation.
The Police have reportedly captured the suspect about a mile (1.6 milometer) from the school. Previous reports cited local police as saying a student at the school was identified as the suspected shooter.
Students interviewed at the scene described the suspect as a "troubled kid."
According to Broward County Sheriff's office, students and teachers remaining in the school are asked to stay barricaded until the police reach their classrooms.
"My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school," U.S. President Donald Trump said.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio said in a tweet that he was monitoring the "horrible unfolding situation."
The incident took place as Parkland has recently been listed as one of the 10 safest cities in Florida.
